Kent is to the south-east of London and is bordered by the River Thames and the North Sea to the north, and the Straits of Dover and the English Channel to the south. On its western edge are the counties of Surrey and Sussex. France is 21 miles (34 km) across the Channel.
Key towns include the County Town of Maidstone, Ashford, Canterbury, Deal, Dover, Faversham, Folkestone, Rochester, Sevenoaks, Sittingbourne, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and Westerham.
Kent has a profusion of Medieval and Tudor castles including Deal, Dover, Hever, Leeds, Rochester, Tonbridge and Upnor. It is also home to Canterbury and Rochester Cathedrals.
