Blists Hill is an open air museum operated by the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, built
on a former industrial complex located in the Madeley area of Telford, Shropshire. The
museum recreates the sights, sounds and smells of a Victorian Shropshire town in the
late 19th century and early 20th century. There are similar museums in many parts of
the UK including the Beamish Museum
in the North East, the Museum
of Kent Life and the Weald
and Downland in the South East and the Ryedale Folk Museum in Yorkshire. There are more but not that I've
been to yet. This and the Beamish are limited to one period of history but both do that
very well.
