Norwich Cathedral Close alongside Norwich Cathedral is one of the largest in England and extends to over 44 acres. It contains the Prior’s Hall and the Bishop’s Palace and many of the buildings form part of Norwich School. Houses in the Lower Close are mainly residential, while those in the Upper Close serve as offices.
The Cathedral was started in 1096 and consecrated in 1100, but took almost two hundred years to complete; the unusually high spire (second tallest spire in the country) was built at the close of the Middle Ages to replace an earlier one.
