Memorial to a Roman Standard Bearer The Cross from the grave of an early Bishop of Hexham

The interior of the Abbey contains a number of very old artifacts, as shown in the images here. The oldest is a memorial to a Roman Standard Bearer. There is also the Cross from the grave of Acca, Bishop of Hexham from 709 to 732. The original Bishop's seat remains in the centre of the Choir.
In most abbeys, there is the remains of the original night stairs to the Monk's dormitory. Here the stairs still exist (see the picture on the previous page).
Some of my favourite pieces are the painted panels behind the pulpit and on the Rood Screen. Most of these come from the Abbey before the Reformation.
