Hypocaust in the Commandants House The East Abutment and the Wall down to the river Hadrian's Wall outside the West gate East Gate with the Wall extending out towards the river

Not all of the fort has been excavated, much remains under grassy mounds around the site, but the gates, headquarters building, praetorium (commandant's house) and portions of the barracks are on view. Chesters fort extended beyond the Wall and short sections of the Wall are visible attached to the south guard-rooms on the east and west gates.
The bridge over the North Tyne has been demolished a long time ago and the path of the river has moved but the eastern abutment of the bridge and the wall extending up the hill are still visible across the river.
