Model of the grounds Belsay Castle Belsay Castle

At Belsay, you get two castles for the price of one - well OK, one is Belsay Hall but it's still fun.
Belsay Castle is a three story rectangular pele tower with rounded turrets and battlements constructed about 1370. In 1614 Thomas Middleton built a new manor house attached to the tower. This is one of the earliest undefended manor houses in Northumberland. When the Hall was built the Castle became a folly in the grounds. When I visited, the Linda McCartney Crystal Horse was on display.
