Beylerbeyi Palace is on the Anatolian (Asian) side of the Bosphorus and was built in 1865 as a Summer Palace for the Ottoman Sultans. It was in use at the same time as the Dolmabahce Palace and is decorated in a similar fashion.
You could say that I chose a dumb time to visit a Summer Palace (February, in the snow) but at least it wasn't busy.
