The Imperial Palace (Kyuden) was completed in 1968 and is a ferro-concrete structure consisting of reception halls and the Emperor's daily office.
It is facing the Kyuden-Totei where the Emperor, Empress and other members of the Imperial family stand to receive the greetings of the people on New Year's day and The Emperor's Birthday. You need a pass to get into the Palace Grounds at any other time.
